The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, has formally sought inclusion in the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. AIMIM Bihar president and MLA Akhtarul Iman wrote a letter to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav requesting the party's entry into the alliance. The letter emphasizes the importance of preventing the division of secular votes in the state. AIMIM has also communicated its desire to senior RJD leaders, including Tejashwi Yadav, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. The move has elicited varied responses from political figures. RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari expressed confidence that no secular votes would be lost and affirmed the readiness of Bihar's electorate to form a government under Tejashwi Yadav. Conversely, Janata Dal (United) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar criticized AIMIM's leader Owaisi, recalling past communal riots during Lalu Yadav's tenure and questioning AIMIM's electoral claims. Union Minister Chirag Paswan and BJP MP Manan Kumar Mishra also commented on the political dynamics, noting fragmentation of Muslim votes and the prevalence of religion-based politics. AIMIM leaders have indicated that if the RJD does not agree to an alliance, the party will contest the elections independently. The Bihar polls are shaping up with the Seemanchal region considered a critical factor in alliance calculations.
