AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday led a party delegation to the Election Commission of India’s headquarters in New Delhi to contest the parameters of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls under way in Bihar ahead of the state elections. Owaisi told reporters after the meeting that the exercise could disenfranchise “15–20%” of eligible voters if their names are omitted and questioned why the Commission is not using the 2024 voter list as the base document. He said AIMIM is not opposed to the revision itself but asked the Commission to extend deadlines, complete training for booth-level officers and consult national parties before finalising the process.
