A high-level meeting was held in New Delhi on July 16, 2025, to address inter-state water disputes between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, focusing on the Godavari river. The meeting was chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil and attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, and the irrigation ministers of both states. Key issues discussed included water management, installation of telemetry machines to monitor water usage, repairing the Srisailam project, and the formation of a joint committee comprising officials and experts to resolve ongoing water-related concerns. The central government positioned itself as a facilitator without taking sides. The meeting also recommended periodic discussions between the two states to ensure better cooperation and conflict resolution regarding river water sharing. The Telangana Chief Secretary had earlier written to the Jal Shakti Ministry ahead of the talks, emphasizing the urgency of the matter. Following the meeting, the two states agreed to establish a committee within a week to further deliberate on water issues. The discussions come amid ongoing tensions over water sharing and contentious river projects between the Telugu-speaking states.
