Indian badminton icon Saina Nehwal said she and her husband, former national teammate Parupalli Kashyap, have decided to separate. The 35-year-old disclosed the development in an Instagram post late on 13 July, nearly seven years after the couple married on 14 December 2018. Nehwal, the first Indian to win an Olympic badminton medal when she claimed bronze at the 2012 London Games, has been largely inactive on the professional circuit since a first-round exit at the Singapore Open in June 2023. Kashyap, who reached a career-high world ranking of No. 6 and captured the men’s singles gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, transitioned to coaching in early 2024. In her statement, Nehwal said the decision followed “much thought and consideration” and asked for privacy as both “choose peace, growth and healing.” Neither party indicated whether the separation would affect their professional commitments.
