Hundreds of commuters led by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya marched from Lalbagh to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. headquarters on 5 July, accusing the operator of repeatedly missing deadlines for the 19-kilometre Yellow Line and of concealing the recommendations of its Fare Fixation Committee after a recent 100 percent fare increase. Surya told demonstrators that BMRCL “keeps extending deadlines the way courts keep adjourning cases” and handed a memorandum to managing director M. Maheshwar Rao demanding that the corridor be opened and the fare report released. The protest followed months of slippage on the line, which was first scheduled to open in December 2021 and most recently missed a June 2025 target. Rao said the company is aiming to start service before 15 August. Internal plans obtained by Moneycontrol show BMRCL preparing to run three trains every 20 minutes between seven stations—RV Road, Jayadeva Hospital, Central Silk Board, Kudlu Gate, Hosa Road, Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara and Bommasandra—until more rolling stock arrives later in the year. Full commissioning still requires an Independent Safety Assessment certificate and clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety. Deliveries of additional coaches have been delayed by Make-in-India sourcing rules and visa issues linked to the India–China border dispute, according to company officials. Surya escalated the dispute on 6 July by filing a petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking public release of the fare committee’s findings, increasing pressure on BMRCL as it races to meet its revised August launch window.
