Indian security agencies are investigating a series of bomb threats that have disrupted aviation and judicial facilities over the past week but yielded no explosives. On 30 June, Agra and Kanpur airports received anonymous emails warning of imminent blasts, prompting shutdown-level security sweeps by the Central Industrial Security Force, police and bomb-disposal teams. Searches of both airports and the surrounding areas, including the vicinity of the Taj Mahal in Agra, found nothing suspicious, though first-information reports were filed under Section 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act to trace the sender. A separate scare unfolded on 5 July when cleaners discovered a tissue reading “bomb inside” in the lavatory of IndiGo flight 6E-108 after it landed in Mohali from Hyderabad. The aircraft, carrying 220 passengers and five crew, was held for two hours while bomb squads and an anti-sabotage unit inspected it and luggage. No device was located, and Punjab Police on 8 July registered a case against unidentified persons under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Aircraft (Security) Act. The same morning, Hyderabad City Civil Court received a bomb threat email at about 3:15 a.m. that was detected several hours later. Telangana Police cordoned off the complex, and bomb-squad personnel conducted a room-by-room search; nothing hazardous was found. Investigators are examining whether the court threat and the earlier airport emails are linked, while civil-aviation and cyber-crime units work to identify those responsible for the string of hoaxes.
