India is advancing its energy transition and aiming for energy independence by 2047 and net zero emissions by 2070, according to Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri at the 9th OPEC International Seminar in Vienna. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has strengthened its energy sector and implemented the Oilfields Amendment Bill 2025, which facilitates investment in exploration and production. Currently, India consumes 5.6 million barrels of crude oil daily and imports crude oil from 40 countries, expanding from 27 previously, focusing on sourcing at competitive prices. The government has also emphasized the importance of global collaboration in the hydrocarbons value chain. India has witnessed a 4,000% increase in installed solar capacity, reaching 227 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, as highlighted by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal during the 11th India Energy Storage Week 2025 in New Delhi. The government is committed to generating 500 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. India’s strategic oil purchases from Russia during the global conflict helped mitigate a potential energy crisis worldwide. Upcoming events like Urja Varta 2025, scheduled for July 17 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, will focus on reforms and innovation in the upstream energy sector.

https://t.co/29hpkFhmXO
