The Indian Army is scheduled to receive three AH-64E Apache attack helicopters from the United States on 21 July, marking the first induction of the platform into Army Aviation rather than the Air Force. The aircraft will touch down at Hindon Air Force Station in Ghaziabad before moving to the Army’s 451 Aviation Squadron in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, for operational deployment along the Pakistan border. The delivery forms part of a roughly $600 million deal signed in 2020 for six Apaches, expanding on the 22 already operated by the Indian Air Force. Supply-chain disruptions twice postponed the hand-over—first from mid-2024 to December 2024 and then to July 2025—with the remaining three helicopters now expected later this year. Equipped with Longbow radar, Hellfire missiles and a 30 mm chain gun, the AH-64E gives the Army a precision strike and reconnaissance platform designed for high-intensity conflict. Senior officers say direct control of the helicopters will shorten response times for close air support and armoured warfare, strengthening deterrence along the western frontier while deepening defence ties with Washington.
