India’s top-flight football competition, the Indian Super League, has put its 2025-26 season on hold after organiser Football Sports Development Limited told clubs it cannot proceed without clarity on a new Master Rights Agreement with the All India Football Federation. The existing 15-year MRA, under which FSDL pays the federation Rs 50 crore ($6 million) annually for commercial and broadcast rights, expires on 8 December 2025—three months into the league’s usual September-to-April calendar. FSDL said the absence of a confirmed contractual framework makes it impossible to plan, organise or monetise the upcoming campaign. The suspension leaves the immediate future of India’s most lucrative football property in doubt and increases pressure on FSDL and the AIFF to strike a new deal. Mohun Bagan Super Giant, last season’s champion, and the league’s other franchises now face uncertainty over player contracts and season planning.
