India's Digital India initiative, launched in 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, has completed a decade, marking transformative progress across multiple sectors. The program has expanded internet connectivity from 25 crore to over 94 crore broadband connections, and telecom subscribers from 933 million to more than 1.2 billion. Mobile phone manufacturing units surged from 2 to over 300, increasing domestic production capacity from 26% to 99.2%. Digital payments have grown exponentially, with retail digital transactions increasing 100-fold, positioning India to handle half of the world's real-time digital payments through platforms like UPI. The initiative has enabled seamless access to government services, including Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), which has improved welfare delivery by eliminating intermediaries. DigiLocker, the world's largest digital locker, now serves nearly 54 crore users, facilitating easy document access. Education has been revolutionized by smart classrooms and personalized digital content, while healthcare accessibility improved through platforms such as Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, CoWIN, and eSanjeevani, enabling virtual consultations nationwide. The program also enhanced governance by digitizing processes, reducing paperwork, and introducing paperless, cashless transactions. Key infrastructure developments include 5G coverage in 99.6% of districts and affordable data at Rs 14 per GB. Digital India has bridged the digital divide, empowering rural and urban populations alike, and has been recognized nationally and internationally for setting new technology standards. The initiative is described as a people's movement that has democratized technology and transformed India into a global digital powerhouse, with a roadmap outlined for continued innovation in the coming decade.
