India’s Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking revision of the NEET-UG 2025 results over an alleged error that may have offered multiple correct answers to a physics question. A bench of Justices P S Narasimha and R Mahadevan said that while the claim could be valid, judicial interference in a nationwide examination taken by more than two million candidates would have far-reaching consequences. The court also declined the petitioner’s request to halt counselling for medical college admissions. Separately, the Madras High Court rejected an appeal demanding a re-examination for candidates who experienced power outages at four Chennai centres during the 4 May test. The Division Bench of Justices J Nisha Banu and M Jothiraman upheld a single-judge ruling, citing National Testing Agency data and CCTV footage showing negligible disruption and no statistical impact on candidate performance. The judges stressed that ordering a fresh exam would disrupt the entire rank list and unfairly affect about 22 lakh aspirants nationwide. Both courts underscored the need to preserve the integrity and timeline of the high-stakes medical entrance test, noting that isolated grievances, while acknowledged, cannot outweigh the interests of the broader candidate pool. With the legal challenges quashed, the National Testing Agency can proceed with counselling and allotment of undergraduate medical seats as scheduled.
