Modi, Finland’s Stubb Discuss Ukraine and Broader Trade Ties

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation on Wednesday with Finland’s President Alexander Stubb, focusing on the war in Ukraine and ways to deepen bilateral cooperation. Modi described Finland as a "valued partner in the EU" and said the two leaders exchanged views on efforts toward a peaceful settlement of the conflict. The discussion also covered expanding collaboration in trade, technology and sustainability, according to statements from both sides. Stubb called India an important international voice that is "heard and respected in the South, West and East." Stubb spoke with Modi shortly after meeting U.S. President Donald Trump and other European leaders at the White House, where the Ukraine crisis was also on the agenda. No new agreements were announced, but both leaders agreed to maintain close contact as international diplomacy over the conflict continues.
