Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro on 7 July that the bloc’s diversity and commitment to a multipolar order are its "greatest strength" and give it a unique role in representing the Global South. Speaking at a session on multilateralism, economic-financial affairs and artificial intelligence, he said developing nations expect the five-member grouping to champion inclusive growth and equitable governance. Modi proposed establishing a BRICS Science and Research Repository to broaden technology access across emerging economies and urged the members to adopt India’s “AI for All” approach to ensure that artificial intelligence benefits society at large. He also pressed for collective standards that prevent any country from weaponising critical minerals, technology or supply chains, stressing the need for systems that are “secure and resilient.”
