Mumbai’s Juhu Police have arrested Vedika Prakash Shetty, the former personal assistant to actor Alia Bhatt, on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust involving about Rs 76.9 lakh. Shetty, 32, was traced to Bengaluru late Tuesday and taken to Mumbai early Wednesday, police officials said. Investigators allege that between May 2022 and August 2024 Shetty forged invoices and Bhatt’s signatures, diverting funds from the actor’s production company, Eternal Sunshine Productions Pvt. Ltd., and from Bhatt’s personal accounts to a friend’s bank account before reclaiming the money herself. The discrepancies surfaced during an internal review by Bhatt’s mother, actor-director Soni Razdan, who lodged a complaint on 23 January 2025. Shetty has been booked under sections 316(4) (criminal breach of trust) and 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A Mumbai court has remanded her in police custody until 10 July while officers scrutinise financial records to determine whether additional sums were siphoned off. In a separate statement, actor Urvashi Rautela’s mother alleged that Shetty caused earlier financial losses to their family while employed as Rautela’s assistant from 2015 to 2017. Police said those claims are being examined but have not yet been added to the current case.
