Pakistani actor and model Humaira Asghar Ali was found dead on 8 July in her rented apartment in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority Phase VI after a court bailiff forced open the locked door during an eviction order, police said. Digital and forensic evidence suggests Asghar died in October 2024. Investigators cited the expiry dates of food left in her refrigerator, inactive SIM cards since September 2024 and a final phone call made in October as indicators. Initial police assessments point to possible food poisoning and found no signs of forced entry, but the exact cause of death will be determined after chemical analyses. Officers have taken her laptop and three mobile phones into custody for further examination. Asghar’s family, based in Lahore, initially declined to receive her remains, prompting Sindh Culture and Tourism Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah to contact police and offer that the provincial government act as legal heir and arrange the burial should relatives persist in their refusal. Several members of the entertainment industry have also offered to cover funeral expenses. The case reached Karachi City Court on 10 July when a local resident filed a petition alleging the 32-year-old actor was murdered and requesting a formal homicide investigation. Police say they will await forensic reports before deciding whether to reclassify the inquiry.
