Indian President Droupadi Murmu on Friday unveiled and formally flagged off the three trophies of the Durand Cup 2025, the country’s oldest football tournament, during a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi. The Chief of Defence Staff and the heads of the Army, Navy and Air Force attended the event, underscoring the competition’s military origins. Murmu said the Durand Cup not only nurtures sporting spirit but also helps develop the next generation of football talent by providing athletes a national platform. Organisers later confirmed that 24 teams will participate when the tournament kicks off on 23 July.
