#BREAKING | Complaint filed against MNS chief Raj Thackeray over his alleged controversial remarks at 'Marathi Pride' rally NDTV's @AnujRayate brings you the details https://t.co/Rsjhn3h5ls
A group of three advocates has filed a police complaint against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, alleging that his remarks at the party’s recent “Marathi Pride” rally amount to hate speech and incitement to violence. The complainants—advocates Pankajkumar Mishra, Nityanand Sharma and Aashish Rai—have requested that authorities invoke the National Security Act and other penal provisions, arguing that Thackeray’s comments threaten public order and communal harmony. The written complaint, submitted on 14 July, cites Thackeray’s televised exhortation to supporters to assault opponents without recording the incident on video. It also asks investigators to examine reports of intimidation and physical attacks purportedly carried out by MNS workers following the speech, and to ensure protection of citizens’ constitutional rights. Police have acknowledged receipt of the complaint and said it is being reviewed. Thackeray and the MNS have not issued a formal response. Any decision to proceed under the National Security Act would require state-level approval and could lead to preventive detention pending further investigation.
