The Rohini Court Bar Association has prohibited clerks, litigants and other members of the public from wearing white shirts and black pants inside the Rohini district court complex in New Delhi, attire traditionally associated with lawyers. In a notice dated 15 July, the bar body said the dress code is strictly reserved for advocates as a mark of professional identity. The decision follows multiple complaints that touts had been dressing like lawyers or their clerks to mislead and defraud litigants, particularly those unfamiliar with court procedures. The association said it had earlier made authorised identity cards mandatory for clerks but additional steps were needed after further reports of impersonation surfaced. Lawyers remain exempt from the restriction.
