U.S. equities extended gains for a fourth consecutive session on Friday, with the S&P 500 rising 0.74% to close at 5,525.21, its first finish above the 5,500 level since new tariffs were announced by President Trump on April 2. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.26%, supported by strong earnings from technology companies including Alphabet (+1.5%), Tesla (+9.8%), Nvidia (+4.3%), and Meta (+2.7%). The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up by less than 0.1%. For April, the S&P 500 gained 3.08% and the Nasdaq 100 rose 1.41%. For the week ending April 25, the S&P 500 advanced 4.59%, the Nasdaq gained 6.73%, and the Dow Jones rose 2.48%. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield declined from 4.33% to 4.27%, while the VIX volatility index dropped 16.22%. Gold prices fell 0.9% over the week, from $3,328.40 to $3,298.40. European indices such as the DAX and FTSE were little changed over the weekend, while the Hang Seng Index also posted minor losses. Currency markets saw the dollar index steady, with GIFT Nifty trading at 24,227. Asian currencies were mixed. In India, the Sensex closed at 79,212.53 and the Nifty at 24,039.35 on Friday. The Nifty has rallied sharply over the last 12 trading sessions. Key stocks include Reliance Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, Force Motors, IndusInd Bank, Axis Bank, Zomato, and RailTel. GIFT Nifty indicates a mildly positive opening. Recent earnings reports showed Reliance Industries' revenue rose 9% in the January-March quarter, Force Motors' net profit surged 210% to Rs 434.7 crore, and Tata Technologies' net profit increased 20% to Rs 189 crore. Indraprastha Gas reported an 8.8% decline in quarterly profit, IDFC First Bank's net profit fell 58% to Rs 304.1 crore, and MRPL's profit dropped 68%. IndusInd Bank disclosed a Rs 1,960 crore loss from accounting lapses. RailTel secured a Rs 90.08 crore order, and IRFC emerged as the lowest bidder for a Rs 5,000 crore term loan project.
