Bhavish Aggarwal, founder of Ola and backed by SoftBank, has announced a significant investment of Rs 2,000 crore ($230 million) in his artificial intelligence startup, Krutrim. This investment is part of a larger commitment to inject Rs 10,000 crore ($1.2 billion) into the company by next year. The funding will be a mix of equity and debt. Aggarwal also unveiled the Krutrim AI Lab, which aims to develop AI technologies tailored for India's diverse linguistic and cultural landscape. Krutrim has released several new AI models as open source, including Krutrim 2, a large language model, Chitrarth 1 for vision-language processing, Dhwani 1 for speech translation, Vyakhyarth 1 for Indic embedding, and Krutrim Translate 1 for text-to-text translation. Additionally, Krutrim is set to deploy India's first GB200 supercomputer in partnership with Nvidia, expected to go live by March 2025, with plans to make it the largest supercomputer in India by the end of the year. This move marks a significant step in India's AI revolution.
