Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has emphasized the importance of Lok Adalats, or People's Courts, as a simple and effective means of resolving disputes. In a series of exclusive interviews, Chandrachud highlighted the Supreme Court's unprecedented workload and the critical role of Lok Adalats in reducing the backlog of cases. The Supreme Court has organized its first ever Special Lok Adalat week from July 29 to August 3 to commemorate its 75th anniversary. This initiative involves the cooperation of the Bar and Supreme Court judges, with seven benches hearing over 2,200 cases listed for amicable resolution. Justice Chandrachud also addressed criticisms about judges' vacations, stating that judges work extensively even during breaks to prepare judgments. Additionally, he stressed the need for trial judges to grant bail without fear of distrust to ensure fair and timely justice. The first day of the Special Lok Adalat was termed a resounding success.
