In California, Boundless Bio, a clinical-stage biotech company, is laying off 33% of its workforce at its San Diego headquarters following setbacks in its lead program. Hewlett Packard Enterprise laid off 89 employees in San Jose on May 2, 2025, and Niantic, now pivoting to geospatial AI, laid off 5 employees in San Francisco on May 10, 2025. NBCUniversal Media will lay off a total of 54 employees at Universal City on June 27, 2025. AAPC Lounge Services will lay off 130 employees at 380 World Way, Los Angeles, on July 21, 2025. Six Flags Entertainment Corporation is cutting 140 jobs at multiple California locations, including 56 at Magic Mountain and 65 at 8039 Beach Boulevard, as part of a broader reduction of 135 jobs across its California parks. Otipy, a grocery subscription startup in India, shut down operations and laid off around 300 employees in Delhi-NCR and Mumbai on May 6, 2025. In the biotech sector, Prothena is planning substantial layoffs after abandoning its lead drug birtamimab, with its stock ($PRTA) down 30%. AbbVie's Allergan Aesthetics unit is planning 202 layoffs after a recent sales decline. Meanwhile, the restaurant industry is expected to add 490,000 jobs for the summer of 2025, an increase over last year but below pre-pandemic levels.
