Iraq Weighs Exports via Lebanon’s Tripoli Port and Revival of Syria Pipeline

Iraq’s Oil Ministry said it is studying options to diversify crude-export routes, including shipping oil through Lebanon’s Mediterranean port of Tripoli. The proposal would give Baghdad an additional outlet that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz and Turkey’s Ceyhan terminal, which has been shut since early 2023 after earthquake damage and legal disputes. The ministry added that it will examine the possibility of reopening the idled Iraq-Syria oil pipeline and will establish a joint committee with Damascus to assess the line’s condition. No timetable or capacity figures were disclosed for either project.
