Syria’s President Ahmad Al-Sharaa has reportedly agreed to cede the Golan Heights to Israel following a meeting with Israel’s National Security Advisor, Tzachi Hanegbi, in Abu Dhabi on 9 July, according to multiple regional media accounts. In return for the territorial concession, Al-Sharaa is said to have obtained Israeli backing for his continued hold on power. The same reports say the two sides intend to establish three demilitarised zones in southern Syria—Daraa, Quneitra and Sweida—where heavy weapons would be withdrawn.
