The United States has intensified its sanctions and diplomatic efforts against Iran and its affiliates, targeting individuals and entities involved in terrorism and sanction evasion. On Tuesday, the U.S. Treasury announced sanctions against four individuals based in Iran for their involvement in terrorism activities. These sanctions specifically target operatives of Saraya al-Ashtar, an IRGC-backed Bahraini proxy group, and other Iran-backed groups in Bahrain. In coordination with Bahrain, the U.S. is sanctioning four facilitators of the Al-Ashtar Brigades, a U.S.-designated terrorist group. The State Department emphasized its commitment to targeting forces destabilizing the region, emanating from Iran. Additionally, the U.S. is taking steps to prevent Iran from evading sanctions through maritime activities. The U.S. State Department's special envoy announced meetings with Panamanian government officials to ensure Panamanian-flagged vessels are not used to transport Iranian oil in violation of U.S. sanctions. This move aims to stop Iranian ships from flying the Panamanian flag, a tactic used to evade sanctions. The U.S. has asked Panama to ban Iranian vessels sanctioned by Washington from using its flag, highlighting the importance of sanctions enforcement and multilateral cooperation in confronting Iran's destabilizing behavior.
