Andrea Bajani’s novel “L’anniversario,” published by Feltrinelli, won the 79th Premio Strega, Italy’s most prestigious literary award. Bajani secured 194 of the 646 votes cast, finishing ahead of Elisabetta Rasy (133 votes) and Nadia Terranova (117). Paolo Nori and debut author Michele Ruol followed with 103 and 99 votes, respectively. The finale, broadcast live from Villa Giulia in Rome, was overshadowed by the absence of Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli, who declined to attend after a dispute with organisers. The ministry is considering relocating next year’s ceremony to Cinecittà, a move that would break with the tradition of hosting the award in the gardens of the National Etruscan Museum.
