The Venice International Film Festival has named Paolo Sorrentino’s new feature, “La Grazia,” as the opening film of its 82nd edition. The romantic drama, starring Toni Servillo and Anna Ferzetti, will receive its world premiere in competition on 27 August in the Sala Grande at the Palazzo del Cinema. The festival runs from 27 August to 6 September 2025. Festival artistic director Alberto Barbera said the selection highlights Sorrentino’s long-standing ties with the Lido, where the Oscar-winning filmmaker last competed with “The Hand of God,” winner of the 2021 Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize. “La Grazia” marks Sorrentino’s seventh collaboration with Servillo and follows his 2024 Cannes entry “Parthenope.” The film is produced by Fremantle-owned The Apartment alongside Numero 10 and PiperFilm. Streamer MUBI holds worldwide rights outside Italy, while The Match Factory is handling international sales.
