John, Lapo and Ginevra Elkann have reached a comprehensive agreement with Italy’s Agenzia delle Entrate to settle the tax liabilities arising from the inheritance of their grandmother, Marella Agnelli, the widow of Fiat patriarch Gianni Agnelli. A spokesperson for the heirs said the arrangement, concluded without any admission of wrongdoing, calls for payments totaling roughly €175 million and is intended to “close a painful personal and family chapter.” The deal resolves the civil dispute with the tax authority but leaves in place a parallel criminal investigation by the Turin prosecutor’s office, which is examining allegations of fraud and tax evasion linked to Marella Agnelli’s residency status at the time of her death. That inquiry previously led to a preventive seizure order of €74.8 million and involves the family’s advisers. The Elkann siblings said discussions with prosecutors are continuing and declined further comment while proceedings remain active.
