Japan Presses U.S. to Cut Car Tariffs Before Aug. 1 Deadline

Japan’s Trade Minister Muto on Tuesday urged the United States to move quickly to cut tariffs on Japanese automobiles ahead of an August 1 deadline, saying Tokyo is examining options to ease the levy. Finance Minister Kato separately told reporters it is “important for Japan to seek a U.S. executive order on tariffs,” underscoring the government’s push to secure relief for its carmakers before the deadline.
