Japanese Agriculture Minister Shinjiro Koizumi attended the fourth trilateral agricultural ministers' meeting of Japan, China, and South Korea in Incheon, South Korea, the first such meeting in seven years. During the meeting, the ministers discussed food security, sustainable agriculture, climate change cooperation, and animal disease control. Koizumi visited a rice farm near Seoul to inspect local rice farming conditions and pest control measures. He also held talks with South Korean officials, including an unprecedented meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister, where he requested the lifting of South Korea's import restrictions on seafood from eight Japanese prefectures, imposed after the Fukushima nuclear accident. Koizumi emphasized the importance of stable food supply and rural revitalization and called for trilateral cooperation against the EU's proposed international trade regulations on eel, which Japan, China, South Korea, and Taiwan jointly oppose. Additionally, Koizumi's planned bilateral meeting with Chinese Agriculture Minister Han Jun was canceled due to Chinese objections related to Taiwan. On August 14, Koizumi visited the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, joining other Japanese officials in commemorating the upcoming 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
