Japanese-based Sakana AI, in collaboration with the University of Oxford and the University of British Columbia, has unveiled 'The AI Scientist,' a pioneering AI system designed to automate the entire scientific research process. This system, developed by Sakana AI Labs, leverages large language models (LLMs) to autonomously generate research ideas, write code, conduct experiments, analyze results, and draft scientific papers. It is capable of performing peer reviews and producing full-length papers at a cost of less than $15. The AI Scientist represents a significant advancement in artificial intelligence, potentially accelerating the pace of scientific discovery and challenging traditional research methodologies.
