Two GSDF Sergeants Die from Electrocution During Infiltration Training at Hijudai Maneuver Area in Oita

Two members of Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF), both sergeants in their 20s, died during a training exercise at the Hijudai maneuver area in Oita Prefecture. The incident occurred amid a lightning advisory while the soldiers were conducting infiltration training. They went missing during the exercise and were later found within the training grounds without visible external injuries. The GSDF has confirmed that the cause of death was electrocution due to lightning.
