An explosion of munitions believed to be remnants of the recent conflict with Israel struck a Lebanese Army engineering team on the outskirts of Majdal Zoun in the Tyre district of south Lebanon on Saturday, according to the state-run National News Agency and other local outlets. Initial reports said the blast left several soldiers dead and more than ten others injured while they were dismantling unexploded shells. A joint force of Lebanese troops and UNIFIL peacekeepers cordoned off the area as emergency crews evacuated the wounded. Prime Minister Najib Mikati issued a statement mourning the dead, praising the troops for performing “their national duty,” and ordered an investigation into the handling and clearance of war debris across the border region.
