Typhoon Podul, also known as Typhoon 11, is currently moving westward south of Okinawa at approximately 30 kilometers per hour. As of August 12, 2025, the typhoon has intensified to a strong force and is expected to pass south of the Sakishima Islands between the night of August 12 and the morning of August 13. Authorities have issued warnings for strong winds, high waves, and heavy rain in the Sakishima Islands. The Japan Meteorological Agency has advised caution due to the potential for damaging weather conditions. While the main Okinawa Island and the main islands of Japan are not expected to experience a direct landfall, Taiwan is preparing for the typhoon's approach with evacuation efforts underway for hundreds of residents along its southeastern coast. The typhoon is forecasted to intensify further as it moves toward southern Taiwan, bringing heavy rain and strong wind gusts before making landfall on Wednesday.
