Kenya’s Devolution Conference 2025 highlighted a series of county and national initiatives aimed at improving water access, health services and education infrastructure. Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. said Makueni County is deploying solar- and hybrid-powered water systems that already serve more than 40,000 residents in Wote and surrounding areas. Along the Kaiti River, newly completed sand dams are storing over 34,000 cubic metres of water, ensuring year-round supply for households, schools and farms while cushioning the region against drought. The Makueni Referral Hospital has also switched to solar energy to secure reliable power and water, which county officials say is lowering operating costs and improving patient care. On the national front, the government announced the rollout of 1,600 science laboratories, with all facilities slated for completion within three months to support a promised 100 percent transition of learners into Grade 9. Officials added that 23,000 classrooms have been built nationwide as part of broader efforts to upgrade basic education. Conference delegates further underscored the need for digital infrastructure in healthcare, arguing that modern information systems can streamline service delivery, curb fraud and reduce operating expenses across the country’s hospitals.
