Kenyan President William Ruto launched the Affordable Housing Internship Programme at State House Nairobi on July 15, 2025. The initiative aims to absorb 4,000 fresh graduates in building professions such as architecture, surveying, engineering, and construction management. This programme is part of a broader Affordable Housing Programme designed to create jobs and promote inclusive growth. President Ruto instructed the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Public Works, in collaboration with consortia, to scale up employment in the housing programme from 320,000 to 600,000 people. Additionally, the government plans to double the number of consulting groups involved in the affordable housing projects. In a related development, President Ruto announced the expansion of the Climate Works project, which currently employs 20,000 youth, to 40,000 starting the week following July 17, 2025. The Climate WORX program, launched later in July, inducted 25,000 youth workers and focuses on addressing environmental challenges.
