Kenyan President William Ruto has launched a comprehensive medical equipment leasing program aimed at upgrading healthcare infrastructure across the country. The government has committed 200 billion Kenyan shillings to this multi-year initiative, which will see the distribution of advanced medical devices to hospitals nationwide over the next seven years. The initial rollout includes 14 CT scans, 2 ultrasound machines, 30 dialysis machines, and 1 digital X-ray to various counties. Ruto emphasized the government's commitment to making healthcare a right for all citizens, highlighting efforts to combat fraud through secure digital infrastructure. The State Health Agency (SHA) has disbursed 56 billion shillings in 10 months, with plans to triple the National Hospital Insurance Fund’s (NHIF) annual payout. Additionally, Ruto stated that some rogue hospitals will be made public or shut down to ensure quality service delivery. Meanwhile, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has criticized the Ruto administration, threatening to reveal alleged government misconduct to the United States and calling for investigations into human rights violations and Kenya’s standing as a NATO partner.
