The High Court has awarded Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye 10.5 million Kenyan shillings in damages following a defamation case against former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba. The court found that Orwoba's social media posts about Nyegenye were malicious and defamatory. In a separate ruling, the court ordered the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) to pay former Sanlam Investment Ltd CEO Kennedy Muriithi Riungu 7.5 million shillings for blocking his potential appointments at Gengis Capital and Mayfair Asset Managers Ltd. Meanwhile, the CMA has granted new licenses to Fintrust Securities Limited as an Authorized Securities Dealer and Stanbic Bank Kenya Limited as a Corporate Trustee. These moves aim to enhance liquidity, governance, and investor protection in Kenya's capital markets. The CMA has also issued warnings to the public about increasing risks of fraudulent schemes and urged investors to exercise due diligence, verifying the legitimacy of firms before committing funds. The authority emphasized that it never requests payments via unofficial channels and cautioned against fraudsters posing as licensed firms or promising unrealistic returns.
