Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has threatened to revoke the citizenship of Dr. Swarup Mishra, deport him to India and shut down his Mediheal Group of Hospitals, citing alleged involvement in an international organ-trafficking scheme. Duale delivered the warning on 1 August after a government task-force implicated the facilities in large-scale irregular kidney transplants. The 314-page report by the Independent Investigative Committee on Tissue and Organ Transplant Services, submitted to Duale on 22 July, examined 452 donors and 447 recipients across several institutions. It found that Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret accounted for 417 donors (about 81 % of the total) and 340 recipients between 2018 and March 2025, with nearly 39 % of recipients lacking documented nationality. The findings will be tabled in Parliament, where lawmakers could open criminal proceedings against Mishra and his associates. Duale said any further action, including deportation and closure of Mediheal facilities, would follow if the report’s recommendations are adopted.
