Kenyan human rights activist Mwabili Mwagodi was reported missing after being abducted in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. His family has been searching for him for several days and alleges that Tanzanian police were responsible for his detention. The Kenyan government has remained silent on the matter, while the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reportedly expressed limitations in handling the case. Mwabili, known for his vocal criticism of Kenyan President William Ruto's government, was found abandoned near Kinondo, close to Diani, at the Lunga Lunga border point. He is currently receiving medical treatment at Pandya Hospital in Mombasa. According to his family, Mwabili was tortured and injected with unknown substances during his abduction. Human rights organizations have condemned the abduction and harassment, highlighting a rise in such incidents. The family also revealed that Mwabili had been receiving threats due to his activism. The incident has drawn attention to cross-border security and the treatment of activists in the region.
