Kenya's Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating a total of 16 current and former governors for alleged corruption, including five sitting governors and 11 former governors. The EACC has completed 89 high-profile investigations and is pursuing cases worth over Ksh. 1.6 billion involving 822 county officials. The commission has recommended that three sitting governors—Kimani Wamatangi of Kiambu County, Mohammed Ali of Marsabit, and Hillary Barchok of Bomet—be prosecuted for graft. Additionally, one former county boss is also named for prosecution. Investigations into five other sitting governors and several MPs, including five under scrutiny for mismanagement of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), are ongoing. Church leaders have called on President William Ruto to take decisive action against corruption by naming and prosecuting implicated legislators, urging an end to rhetoric in favor of concrete measures. The clergy criticized government leaders for hypocrisy and called for a genuine crackdown on graft. Meanwhile, political allies of President Ruto have condemned Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for linking the government to Al-Shabaab, emphasizing that it is wrong to stereotype the Somali community as terrorists. The government has also lifted identification vetting requirements in Northern Kenya, a move defended by leaders including Kindiki.
