Rigathi Gachagua faced violent disruptions during his return to Nairobi, with his convoy being stoned on Mombasa Road and attacked by gangs near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Several people were injured in the ensuing chaos. The unrest appeared to be part of a coordinated campaign targeting Gachagua's return, involving organized gangs operating systematically. Government officials, including CS Murkomen, downplayed the scale of Gachagua's reception at JKIA, describing it as a small event that did not justify the level of disruption. Murkomen also criticized the Deputy County Commissioners (DCP) for failing to provide security plans, which allowed the gangs to attack the convoy. Political figures such as Kalonzo Musyoka, George Matiangi, and Martha Karua distanced themselves from Gachagua's return amid the tensions. Meanwhile, questions have been raised about the security meetings chaired by Murkomen in relation to the incident. Separately, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has submitted the names of three governors to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and is investigating five others, along with eleven former governors, for corruption allegations. Senator Murkomen has also called for sanctions against prisoners suspected of communicating with Mackenzie from jail, amid uncertainty about Mackenzie's involvement in related disturbances.
