Kenyan authorities have been actively prosecuting individuals linked to the Saba Saba protests and related incidents throughout July and early August 2025. All 19 suspects from the June 25 protests in Olkalou, Nyandarua County, were released on personal bonds of KES 100,000 each, with two sureties of equal amount, with the case set for review on July 21. In Narok and Eldoret, 24 and 36 suspects respectively accused of obstructing traffic during the Saba Saba demonstrations were freed on KES 5,000 cash bail each. The state sought to detain some protesters arrested in Ngong Town for 14 days on charges including terrorism, rioting, destruction of property, and assaulting police officers. Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, journalist James Mbochi, and Stanley Mbuthi were arraigned and held in custody as police investigated terror links to the protests. Mukunji was later freed on KES 300,000 cash bail. A total of 36 protesters faced terrorism charges. Youth leaders James Wanjiru and Wanjiku Muhia were released on KES 50,000 cash bail after being charged with terrorism-related offenses. At Thika Law Courts, suspects protested high cash bail terms but were released on KES 100,000 cash bail each. Kahawa Law Court freed 44 people on bond, including DCP youth leaders. The Thika High Court later reduced bail for 42 protest suspects from KES 100,000 to KES 30,000 each following a review led by advocates including MP Babu Owino. Eight suspects linked to the arson attack on Mawego Police Station in Homa Bay County on July 3 were released on KES 50,000 cash bail, though their lawyers expressed concerns about the amount. Separately, the High Court overturned the acquittal of two international businessmen and three former Principal Secretaries in the Sh3.5 billion Anglo Leasing scandal. Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu was ordered to secure a KES 53 million bank guarantee for release after 167 days in jail. Ex-serviceman Patrick Osoi and former prison warden Jackson Kihara remain in custody pending bond rulings. Additionally, a suspect was arrested in Kikuyu for allegedly producing illicit alcohol.
