A court in Kitale, Kenya, has ordered the verification of the ages of seven suspects accused of murder and cannibalism in Kapenguria, West Pokot County. Meanwhile, protests erupted in Embu Town following the arrest of Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, who is among 195 individuals charged in connection with the recent Saba Saba demonstrations. Mukunji faces allegations of incitement, organizing violence, and terrorism-related charges. He, along with two others including journalist James Mbochi, was remanded in police custody as the police continue investigations into alleged terror links to the protests. Multiple courts across various counties have arraigned numerous suspects linked to the Saba Saba demonstrations, with charges ranging from obstructing traffic and causing chaos to terrorism, rioting, vandalism, and assaulting police officers. Several suspects have been released on cash bail amounts varying from Sh5,000 to Sh50,000, while others remain in custody, including 63 youths arrested in Machakos who will stay detained for 10 days. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has sought extended detention for Mukunji and others, with courts hearing arguments over bail and detention. Mukunji's legal team has accused the government of abusing the judicial process and weaponizing courts for political purposes. Additionally, seven suspects have been arraigned over an arson attack on Mawego Police Station. Separately, six individuals convicted of the murder of former Juja MP George Thuo have been released on a Sh1 million bond pending appeal determination.
