Protests erupted in Embu Town following the arrest of Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, who is accused of incitement and orchestrating violence related to the Saba Saba demonstrations. The unrest in Embu entered its second day, with police firing tear gas into residential areas. Mukunji, along with journalist James Mbochi and Stanley Mbuthi, remains in police custody as authorities investigate alleged links to terrorism and protest financing. Courts have remanded Mukunji and others, with the High Court in Nairobi ordering his transfer to Nairobi Hospital for treatment after he declined care at Mbagathi Hospital. Across various counties, dozens of suspects arrested during the Saba Saba protests have been released on cash bail ranging from Sh5,000 to Sh50,000, while others face charges including terrorism, rioting, destruction of property, and assaulting police officers. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is pursuing further detentions and arraignments related to the demonstrations. Additionally, seven individuals were arraigned over an arson attack on Mawego Police Station. The High Court has also ruled that police cannot set up road barricades without prior notice.
