South Korean President Lee Jae-myung will welcome Vietnam’s Communist Party General Secretary To Lam for a four-day state visit beginning Sunday, the presidential office in Seoul said. The trip is the first state visit hosted by Lee since he took office on 4 June and follows a slowdown in Korean investment flows to Vietnam this year. Lee and Lam are scheduled to hold a summit on Monday, followed by a state banquet. Officials said talks will span trade, investment and emerging sectors such as high-speed rail, nuclear power, smart cities and science and technology, reflecting Hanoi’s push to deepen technology ties with one of its largest investors. The meeting takes place against a backdrop of heightened global trade friction after Washington imposed duties of 20 percent on Vietnamese exports and 15 percent on South Korean goods. Korean companies have invested about $92 billion in Vietnam, led by Samsung Electronics, and both governments are seeking ways to cushion supply chains and sustain technology cooperation under the new tariff regime.
