European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen opened a tour of European Union frontline states with a stop in Latvia on Friday, visiting a local drone manufacturing facility she described as evidence the Baltic nation is becoming a “true drone powerhouse.” In remarks during the visit, von der Leyen called Russian President Vladimir Putin a “predator,” accusing Moscow and its proxies of conducting years-long hybrid and cyber attacks against European societies and of “weaponising” migration flows to destabilise the bloc. The comments come amid heightened EU efforts to strengthen border security and support member states that neighbour Russia.
