Crystal Palace Football Club has lost its appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against UEFA's decision to demote the club from the 2025-26 Europa League to the UEFA Conference League. The ruling upholds UEFA's multi-club ownership rules, which Palace breached due to the involvement of its American owner John Textor, who held a 43% stake in the club. Textor attempted to sell his stake to comply with UEFA regulations but missed multiple deadlines and communications, leading to the enforcement of the demotion. As a result, Nottingham Forest will take Crystal Palace's place in the Europa League for the upcoming season. The club, which won the FA Cup, has strongly criticized UEFA and CAS, describing the process as "almost impossible to get a fair hearing" and stating that "sporting merit is meaningless" in their response. Crystal Palace is reportedly considering further legal action following the ruling. The Premier League has also made a decision perceived as an additional setback for the club amid this controversy.
