Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company, xAI, is rapidly advancing its Grok AI models, with Grok-3 expected to be released by the end of 2024. Grok-1 was made available for early access on November 3, 2023, and has since seen multiple updates, including Grok-1.5 and Grok-2, which were released on May 15, 2024, and August 13, 2024, respectively. The Grok models are integrated into the X app, formerly known as Twitter, and are accessible to Premium+ users. Musk's aggressive development timeline aims to position Grok ahead of competitors like OpenAI's GPT-5, Google's Gemini 2, and Anthropic's Claude 3.5 Opus. The rapid progress and anticipated capabilities of Grok-3 have generated significant excitement and speculation within the AI community. Musk has also filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and signed an open letter advocating for an AI development pause to catch up in the competition.
I continue to wonder about the plan for Grok Grok 2 is a good GPT-4 class model with some odd quirks & which is embedded in Twitter (no one's idea of productivity app). The rate of training suggests Grok 3 may be an early GPT-5 class model, what is the use case xAI sees for it?
Grok 3 needs to surpass everything on the current market... by quite a distance. We could have GPT-5, Gemini 2 and Claude 3.5 Opus out by then! https://t.co/P844DoqsQR
Presuming this is Grok 3. 4 months to train and safety test to get it out the door before 2025. 🤔 https://t.co/3wVpXXxIrJ
