
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) have partnered to enhance consumer privacy and data safeguards. In addition, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has issued a final 'Open Banking' rule governing third-party use of consumer banking information. This rule, issued on Oct. 22, 2024, mandates that covered financial institutions provide consumers and authorized third parties with access and portability options for their financial data. The CFPB also issued guidance with an aggressive interpretation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) applicability to employee monitoring and screening tools.
